PAS Workshop: Making Personal Assistance Services Work for People with Disabilities

Abstract: NCHSD facilitated this session at the MIG/DMIE Employment Summit hosted by New Orleans, where three state presenters shared their experience and advice about ensuring that PAS programs support employment. Nancy Scott (Kansas) discussed the supports needed by a working population to increase employment and independence, and the Work Opportunities Reward Kansans program created under the DRA. Carol Ruddell (Utah) explained how the cuing service in their Employment-PAS program applies in the workplace, its critical importance for people with mental illness, and how it differs from other employment-related supports. Scott Holladay (Arkansas) discussed how to collaborate across agencies to tailor PAS and supported employment services to meet the needs of working individuals, and improve provider participation at the same time.
