There's Something About Medicaid - Medicaid suffers from a chronic mismatch between what we ask it to do and what we are willing to pay

File format: PDF File (Adobe Acrobat File)
Author: Alan Weil
Date: 11/02/2005
Abstract: States view Medicaid as an essential part of their current strategies to provide insurance to their low-income populations, cover the chronic care needs of people with disabilities and the elderly, and finance the health care safety net. Medicaid has accomplished much, and it can continue to do so if the underlying fiscal pressures and tensions built into it are addressed. Originally published in the Jan./Feb. 2003 issue of Health Affairs, Alan Weil presented these ideas at the 2005 NCHSD National MIG TA Conference, Chicago.
